Jacobsen Completes First LEED Platinum Building in SLC

Press Release | July 22, 2010

Jacobsen has taken the LEED in sustainable construction once again, with the completion of Architectural Nexus’ new corporate office—and the very first LEED Platinum building in Salt Lake City.

“Architectural Nexus negotiated this important project exclusively with Jacobsen,” explained JCC President Doug Welling. “This speaks loudly to the trust, confidence and expertise that continues to be strengthened with our friends at Nexus. Congratulations to our team for delivering another industry leading LEED project!”

This net-zero, energy-efficient building has a comfortable, classy atmosphere, and the open house said it all—right down to the refreshments being served on bamboo plates and the gifts of aluminum water bottles.

Many changes and adaptations had to be made in order to raise this building from the planned LEED Gold to LEED Platinum. JCC Project Manager Bryce Jensen said the schedule was incredibly aggressive, and there were numerous design changes... but on the evening of the open house, the building was in top condition and ready to impress. “It was definitely a challenging project, but a great one. We took an eyesore building and turned it into the nicest building in the neighborhood,” Bryce added.

Architectural Nexus President Don Finlayson has been very complimentary about the efforts of the Jacobsen team, saying “You’ve exceeded our expectations in every way.”

To become a LEED Platinum building, a score of 80 points or better must be achieved. Points are distributed across major categories such as Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality.
