PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The renovation of the Shepherd Student Union included a seismic upgrade, as well as complete removal and installation of new infrastructure and artchitectural finishes.

The nature of the building as well as its location proved to be a challenge during construction. Existing programs and essential personnel were not able to vacate the facility during construction; therefore, the project commenced in two phases and Jacobsen had to essentially split the building in half. Using demising walls to divide the space, construction began in one half of the building while the occupants carried on campus “business as usual” in the other half—all the while being sensitive to campus events and activities.
