Amangani Hotel

A three-level resort facility with terraced patio including lounge, massage and pool area. There are 40 rooms, a five-star restaurant, library, swimming pool and various retail and guest functions. The hotel is located on a cliff side with dramatic views of the Tetons and the surrounding countryside. Sitework included extensive landscaping. Unique finish materials include spruce logs, lodgepole pine railings, stone for both interior and exterior walls from eastern Oklahoma, redwood, slate, and quartzite stone.
American Fork Hospital Cancer Center Addition

The Cancer Center provides chemotherapy and radiation treatments and gives Utah County cancer victims a "one stop shop" for treatment. Everything about the center -- from the multimedia education center to the seven exam rooms -- is designed with cancer patients and their families in mind. The center houses a linear accelerator, a $1.8 million radiation machine that rotates around patients as they lie still. This allows doctors to tailor state-of-the-art treatment to where it is needed.
American Fork Hospital Expansion & Renovation

Expansion and remodel to double the size of the existing hospital. The project added a new three-story hospital wing -- where administration, birthing and delivery will find new homes. By creating the new wing, space was made available for an expanded Same-day Surgery Center, expanded Emergency Room and Radiology Center. A new Critical Care Unit and expansion to the hospital’s Central Plant were also included.
American Fork Police and Courts Building

Three-story building with brick exterior and EIFS accents provides a police facility on the first floor and a courts complex on the second and third floors. The project was recognized as "Outstanding Large Public Project 2002" by Intermountain Contractor.
ARUP Building Expansion

An expansion to the existing facility. This phase three addition is a three-story structure including research laboratories and administrative offices. The project required the connection of the mechanical systems to a central mechanical area in the phase two building. Because of owner occupation, it was important to ensure the safety of the clients and staff by building temporary sidewalks and stairs. The facility provides testing for medical hospitals and clinics throughout the Wasatch area.
Becton Dickinson Autoguard Molding Facility Addition and Remodel

An expansion to more than double the facility’s current autoguard manufacturing operations. The autoguard is a protective plastic device that fits over the needles of Becton Dickinson’s catheters. This remodel converted existing warehouse space into manufacturing space, which houses approximately 57 plastic injection molding machines, a mold repair shop, parts store, and utility space. The new molding area is separated into three cleanrooms designed to Class 100,000 cleanroom specifications. Jacobsen oversaw an electric service upgrade as well.
Becton Dickinson Research & Development Center Addition

Construction of an addition to the Research and Development Technology Center for the Vascular Access Division. The construction was extremely complicated due to its diverse research requirements. The functions range from pure research laboratories to a prototype clean room manufacturing space. The building is densely designed for communications systems, due to the high use of CAD design stations, and the need to tie back into the company’s information data base.
Billings Montana LDS Temple

New LDS temple in Billings, Montana to serve 60,000 LDS Church members in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. The temple is set against the rimrocks, the tall sandstone cliffs that run along the northern edge of the city. Work includes a maintenance building that is buried and blends in with the landscaping. Site work included retaining walls with a stone face on the exposed side. Because the project is located on an expansive clay, the temple is engineered similar to a parking garage, with foundation walls and slabs bearing only on bored concrete caissons. The project was recognized with the Excellence in Concrete 1999 Award by the American Concrete Institute.
Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library Expansion

Four-level, underground library addition and remodel of the existing structure at Brigham Young University. Project included a 235,000 sq. ft. underground addition and a 70,000 sq. ft. phased remodel. The complex site required the largest and deepest cavity ever to be excavated at BYU. Earthwork included soil nailing, boring and significant earth retainage work; 220,000 cu. yds. of soil was removed. By meticulously sequencing the work, Jacobsen personnel overcame the difficulty of extremely tight site access.
Brigham Young University Bookstore Remodel

Jacobsen renovated the existing bookstore at Brigham Young University, primarily for an update to BYU's telecommunications system. The work involved the demolition of the interior finishes of all three levels. The existing structure was fireproofed. New finishes involving ceiling tile, lights, floor pavers and carpet were installed. Many of the existing walls were demolished and built at different locations. An elevator was also added. The bookstore remodel was phased to accommodate continued operation of the building. The work was completed more than two months early.
Brigham Young University Smith Fieldhouse Remodel

With the completion of BYU’s new Athletic Facility, the Smith Fieldhouse was renovated and remodeled. The remodel encompassed general office remodeling, locker room and issue room renovations in various areas throughout the Fieldhouse. The renovation also meant new office space for Physical Education Department staff (including Women’s Basketball, Women’s Gymnastic and Women’s Track staff), as well as new computer/media labs and conference rooms.
Buffalo Bill Historical Center

The Draper Natural History Museum focuses on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and adjacent intermountain basins. The Museum is designed to become an internationally recognized center for exploring, documenting, and interpreting the tangled destinies of humans and nature in our focus area. The new facility features flexible exhibitry, designed to allow for frequent changes and updates to keep up with relevant and timely issues, and extensive audiovisual and informational databases related to regional flora, fauna, geological features, and human presence.
BYU-Idaho Benson Building Addition & Renovation

The Benson addition, which is located on the east side of the existing building near the Thomas E. Ricks gardens, includes 25,000 sf of new classroom and office space and 15,500 sf of greenhouses (replacing old greenhouses that needed to be relocated). The new addition meets the growing needs of BYU-Idaho’s expanded biology programs. The addition houses four classrooms; four labs for biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology; a multi-use room for agronomy and horticulture; and 11 faculty offices.
BYU-Idaho Gordon B. Hinckley Building

The Hinckley Building was built to provide meeting areas for LDS student activities as well as classroom space. This multi-use facility houses classrooms, offices, a chapel, two full kitchens and a cultural hall. The design also includes open spaces, a vestibule with large windows overlooking gardens and areas. The new structure reflects the administration’s goal to build a facility that serves multiple needs and to frugally build a structure that will last at least 100 years. The design is the same used for LDS institute buildings on other college campuses -- including the Institute build by Jacobsen adjacent to the Dixie State College campus.
BYU-Idaho Mark Austin Building Second Floor Renovation

During the summer the second floor of the Austin Building was renovated to accommodate the computer science department that has moved into the building. The remodeled area includes new classrooms, student computer areas, lab space and 10 faculty offices.
BYU-Idaho Thomas E. Ricks Building

The large L-shaped classroom building located on the BYU-Idaho Campus houses the Department of Mathematics, Department of History, Geography and Political Science, Department of Psychology, and Department of Sociology and Social Work. The two story, golden brick building includes 23 classrooms, 58 offices, four secretarial reception areas and an animal science laboratory. A student area at the center of the building overlooks the gardens - featuring indirect lighting from windows above.
Cache Valley Specialty Hospital & Medical Office Building

Two new facilities, a hospital and a medical office building, connected by a corridor and sharing the same main entrance. The hospital contains four operating rooms with needed pre-op and recovery, a level-4 emergency room, x-ray and laboratory departments, two LDRP rooms, eight in-patient beds, and all other required ancillary spaces to meet State of Utah licensing requirements. The medical office building contains office space for physicians, a physical therapy area, pharmacy, food deli, and administrative offices.
Campbell Residence - Stone Gate

A custom home built in the Stone Gate River Village on the Provo River with panoramic mountain views, backyard stream access and sharing a common waterfall and swimming pool. The home features a natural stone exterior and slate roof. Beamed vaulted ceilings compliment the stone fireplaces, wood floors and custom cabinets. Special features include a hot tub, exercise room, entertainment center and custom lighting.
Carbon County Ambulance Garage

The new Carbon County ambulance garage replaces the crumbling building located near the county courthouse. The emergency operations center is housed on the second floor and serves as a crisis management headquarters in an emergency and as a backup communications center for the state's public safety dispatch center in Price.
Carbon County Road Maintenance Shop

Carbon County officials began exploring some years ago the need to relocate the County's road shop. The existing facility had proven to be inadequate for the level of work performed by the county. The new facility includes six vehicle bays (including a parts storage room), two auto lift bays, one welding bay, one lube bay, locker / shower rooms, radio / communications room, office and training spaces.
Central Utah Correctional Facility

This 623-bed facility included maximum secured areas, three housing modules, infirmary, reception/orientation, visiting, chapel, court, educational and administrative areas. Construction was completed in 14 months – four months ahead of schedule.
China Bridge Parking Structure Expansion

The China Bridge Parking Structure is a five-level concrete structure with suspended post tension concrete decks. The structure is located in Park City just east of Main Street on Swede Alley. The 300-stall structure incorporated the use of corrosion inhibitor additives to control rusting of the rebar due to the high amount of salt used in the area for snow melt. The project team had to overcome challenges of extremely tight access, an aggressive schedule, mountain snow storms and public safety / access issues.
Ciudad Juarez Chihuahua Mexico Temple

As owner's representative, Jacobsen oversaw all contracts, change orders and pay requests for the project. Jacobsen also directed the architect and on-site contractor, Grana y Montero. The temple has a Classic modern, single-spire design and contains two ordinance rooms and two sealing rooms. The temple is a steel structure and an exterior of white marble from Southern Mexico. It is built to Seismic Zone 4 requirements to meet earthquake codes.
Colonia Juarez Chihuahua Temple

The Colonia Juarez Temple was the first of the new generation of smaller temples to be completed outside of the United States. With a gleaming marble exterior, the temple fits among the landscape and buildings around it. There is one ordinance room and one sealing room.
Copper Hills High School

New, two-level structural steel building with brick veneer and EIFS exterior. This building was designed with the future in mind, with computer labs and a computer network throughout. Includes 1,300-seat auditorium, sound room, 2,700-seat gymnasium, 4,000-seat stadium, tech. lab, three soccer fields, one baseball field, and one softball field.
DFCM Four Classroom Buildings Project

The DFCM's award of the Four Classroom Buildings project to a single constructor-lead design/build team marked a first for the State of Utah. Not only did it combine four projects, but it also opened the door for an entirely new approach to building on college campuses. Though each final building is different, the design/build team identified similarities to create a central spine around which all services such as classrooms, audio/visual, lecture halls and office functions are located. This spine delivers the mechanical and electrical services to each of the modules.
DTV Transmitter Station

Digital television (DTV) facility atop Farnsworth Peak. At 9,000 ft., insulated shells were made for the buildings to protect them from the extreme weather. Rock anchors were used to secure the 300 ft. tower. Pre-cast panels were used on exterior. Cement board and metal paneling formed the roof, protecting the structure from potential falling icicles from the 300 ft. tower.
East High School Remodel and Addition

Addition to existing school including a new stadium, soccer field and two new wings connecting to existing auditorium and field house. Large portions of the exterior are architectural concrete. The new school was built 15 feet from old school. Demolition and construction were accomplished in phases to coordinate with school schedules, moving 2,000 students from the old portion of the high school to a newly constructed portion before demolition could commence.
Elk Ridge Middle School

Construction of a new, single-level school for grades 7, 8 and 9, including playing fields, site landscaping, new road access, and extension of existing utilities. Student capacity of 1400. This project was similar to a design/build type project; value engineering in the design phase substantially decreased project cost.
Empire Canyon Day Lodge

New day lodge at the bottom of Deer Valley’s Empire Express and Ruby chairlifts. The new lodge offers additional lunch seating for skiers and provides a convenient dining location on the west side of the resort. The lodge features 24” log columns supporting glu-lam trusses. The building was constructed over the remains of the old Highbiner Mine buildings and ash dumps from the former steam plant, requiring remediation work for optimal building stability.
Four Seasons Resort Hotel

Five-star resort hotel with 124 hotel rooms, 40 Residence Club units and 17 condominiums. Features include an outdoor swimming pool, spa, restaurants, ballrooms, conference areas, skier services area and an underground parking structure. The building's structure is of concrete. Reflecting the design theme of "western elegance," the exterior is stone with cedar siding and timber cladding, and the interior finishes incorporate extensive distressed knotty alder wood and natural rock. Associated construction work on the 8-1/2 acre site includes relocating utilities.
Fresno California LDS Temple

Situated on a little more than two acres, the Fresno Temple is a Classic modern, single-spire design. The temple has two ordinance and two sealing rooms -- a model of the small temple concept. The building is clad with white Sierra granite quarried in Raymond, California.
Gateway Parking Structure

Three and four-level underground structure located underneath Main Street at South Temple. Used microsilica DCI high performance concrete. Contains 360 stalls. Construction required shoring and underpinning of existing malls and digging below their foundations. This had a fast-track schedule, and the site was within close proximity to walls of existing structures: in some places only 4'0" separates the parking structure from other buildings. By minutely sequencing the work, Jacobsen personnel overcame the difficulty of extremely tight site access.
Grand America Hotel

New hotel and convention center which includes a 24-story tower, two five-level garden wings, function buildings, courtyards and two levels below grade that will house parking, mechanical, electrical, laundry and employee facilities. The guest space consists of 775 rooms, including two presidential suites on the top level, six grand suites on the next level, and other suites throughout the remaining floors. The exterior is 240,000 sq. ft. of granite cladding.
Grand County Community-Senior Center

The Center providesmulti-purpose areas, dining, crafts, recreation facilities, kitchen, health/exam rooms and typical support spaces. Outdoor space and creating a "welcoming, inviting" beacon for the community were a primary design objective. Siting of the building takes advantage of the beautiful views and allows the integration of indoor/outdoor programming.
Grand County Library

The new library's modern design highlights 18-foot ceilings and an open floor plan. The facility features state-of-the-art technology, including more than 50 computers for children, teens and adults, as well as a new reference library and space for the library's special collections.
Granger Medical Center

Gunnison Valley Hospital Expansion and Remodel

This expansion meets the growing health-care demands in the area and increases the size of the hospital by 70 percent. The scope of the expansion includes a new operating room, three recovery areas, three examination/treatment rooms, nurse station, patient waiting area and six new private patient rooms. An atrium preserves the existing windows in the Labor and Delivery rooms. The existing OR, LDRP room, “Clean and Soil” areas were remodeled.
Handy Trucking Warehouse

The concrete tilt-up warehouse contains office space, mechanics bay and warehouse/storage area. Delivered under a design/build contract, Jacobsen worked with the owner and architect to develop the site layout, building material selection and overall building design.
Huntsman Cancer Institute

A world-class cancer research facility at the University of Utah with laboratory and office space housed in a six-story structure. The building is composed of two different structures joined by an expansion joint. The 60,000 sq. ft. office portion is steel frame construction. The laboratory portion is structural concrete for vibration resistance. Complete laboratories include fume hoods, C-frame casework, and biological safety cabinets. Project completed on time including a $23 million owner-initiated increase in scope.
J.R. Smith Elementary School Addition & Remodel

This project consisted of two separate building additions. One addition added much needed classroom space and the other nearly doubled the size of the multi-purpose room. An extensive interior remodel included gathering space and the principal’s office area. Jacobsen was very successful at implementing a safety plan which ensured student safety as the construction of the building took place while school was in session.
Jackson High School

The Jackson High School is a two-story masonry facility with two gymnasiums and a 550-seat auditorium. This project was constructed in conjunction with two other school projects for the Teton County School District #1. Log construction and finish materials provide a rustic accent.
Jordan High School

New, two-story high school with structural steel frame, heavy gauge metal stud framing with brick veneer and EIFS exterior. Interior is load bearing block and block veneer. The school sits on a 45-acre site and includes gymnasiums, tech atrium, auditorium, sound room, wood shop, auto shop, energy management system, running track, and tennis courts.
Jordan Valley Technology Center

A new office building, the first in a premier office park in South Jordan. Designed for computer oriented business. The entire building was built with access flooring and designed for worst-case scenario earthquakes. Floors will flex as much as three inches per floor.
Kennecott Utah Copper

A series of concrete projects for Kennecott’s massive Smelter Modernization, most notably new concrete foundations. Jacobsen’s experienced concrete crews self-performed 100% of the work.
Kol Ami Synagogue Addition and Remodel

The Kol Ami is the largest synagogue in the State. The focus of the project is to improve the existing structure as well as add a youth wing and library. The youth wing includes a youth lounge, office space and five new classrooms for its religious school. A mikveh, a pool for spiritual cleansing, will be added in the lower level. Jewish law mandates that the water must flow freely, and must not reach the mikveh through pipes made of metal or other materials that are believed to be susceptible to ritual contamination. Ensuring a valid mikveh is complex – so complex that Jewish scholars have published several volumes devoted to the intricacies of mikveh construction. Following these established guidelines, Valentiner Crane Brunjes Onyon Architects’ design includes a rainwater collection system and plastic piping.
KTVX Television Station

New television station with a state-of-the-art broadcasting news studio, a 14-dish satellite farm and a 70-foot microwave tower. Increasing accessibility, 20,000 sq. ft. of the station was built with grid-access flooring. This allows for the easy hook-ups and transfer of electrical, phone and data lines to computers, recoding devices and cameras. The station was also equipped with a PDU that provides clean, uninterrupted power for the station. The regulation of the voltage is very important due to the sensitivity of the equipment used by the facility. The station also has the ability to be powered by two emergency diesel generators if necessary.
Lake Park Corporate Center

Five-story office building featuring office space, a penthouse level, a cafeteria, glass curtain wall and a 22-acre parking lot. Intended for use as a credit card services center, this facility required specialized computer and communications equipment. Floor-to-floor height is 16 feet, with an average ceiling height of 10.5 feet, allowing a generous work area in the ceiling plenum for out of sight utilities work. Access flooring was installed throughout the building to facilitate wiring. The office building is set within a corporate park and an 18-hole golf course. Sitework included a lake edge, channel edges and a 22-acre parking lot.
Las Vegas Premium Outlets

Located on a 40-acre site in downtown Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Premium Outlets is the area's first upscale outlet center. The center’s architecturally themed, outdoor village setting creates a pleasant, upscale atmosphere for shoppers as they browse more than 120 designer and name-brand outlet stores. The outlets include a large food court and a wide range of customer services including an Information Center. The exterior is tilt-up concrete panel walls with stucco and stone veneer wainscot.
Layton Health Center Expansion & Remodel

The project includes a new expansion and a small amount of interior renovation and exterior site work. The 25,600 square foot expansion includes a physician pod, waiting, imaging and associated circulation on the first floor and a physician pod and waiting on the second floor. It will nearly double the size of the Layton Center. The expansion also brought a mobile MRI, full coverage CT scans, ultrasounds, mammography and the expansion of InstaCare.
LDS Conference Center

A new, 21,000-seat Conference Center for general conference meetings and other events for the LDS Church on an entire city block north of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. Work includes the building itself, an underground parking structure, and a theater that will be used for special productions. Jacobsen was awarded the work as a joint venture with Okland Construction and Layton Construction.
Logan Utah LDS Temple Exterior Restoration

Selective dismantlement, stone masonry restoration, stone masonry cleaning, cast stone replacements, wood window and door restoration of the historic LDS Logan Temple. Masonry tuckpointing duplicating original raised tooled joints. This required special custom tools and crew training.
Main Street Plaza and Parking Structure

The Main Street Plaza turned a formerly heavily-trafficked strip of Main Street into a pedestrian plaza, with a new, 600-stall parking garage underneath. The Plaza offers pedestrians a kind of oasis on the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Extensive landscaping with flowers, trees and grass is offset by water features at each corner and a central reflecting pool lined with polished black granite. Carnelian and Iridian granite pavers provide generous walkways. The 4-1/2 level underground parking structure is adjoined to an existing parking lot. The project team had to overcome challenges of extremely tight access, an aggressive schedule and public safety issues. Shoring and underpinning of existing structures was also required. This project was a joint venture with Okland Construction.
Marriott Summit Watch

A luxury, time-share condominium complex consisting of seven buildings with a total of 135 two-bedroom villas. The complex includes an Aquacade consisting of an indoor-outdoor pool, four spas and a workout/fitness facility. The design features drive-through entries to interior courtyards. The buildings are connected by a post-tensioned concrete parking garage.
Merit Medical Expansion & New Sensor Building

The 180,000 square foot addition to the Merit Medical campus effectively doubles the space devoted to disposable medical device manufacturing. Two buildings house new space for plastic-injection molding, electronics production and a new semiconductor-wafer fabrication plant. Automated warehousing and other equipment were included in the project scope.
Micron Warehouse and Administration Buildings

Monticello Utah LDS Temple

The Monticello Temple was an historic first of a new generation of smaller temples announced by President Gordon B. Hinckley during the October 1997 General Conference. The temple includes a baptismal font, endowment rooms, sealing rooms and an elegant Celestial Room. Its Turkish marble exterior was carefully selected for its color, range of tints and availability. The 1,300 installed tiles were evaluated carefully to ensure a blended, uniform color.
National Museum of Wildlife Art

Museum with twelve art galleries, auditorium, restaurant, visitors' lobby and terraces built into a hillside location. The seismic four earthquake zone, rockslide and avalanche debris movement, and the severe winter weather were constraints of the project. The museum was designed to look as if it is actually part of the hillside, echoing the natural color, texture and shape of the ground it is built on. It has won six major architectural awards.
Nauvoo Illinois LDS Temple

Originally built in 1846, the reconstruction of the Nauvoo Temple by Legacy Constructors was a labor of love by builders and Church members alike. Every effort was made to make the new temple appear as the old one did. Some changes were made of necessity, but most of the original structure was replicated. The baptismal font is carved of limestone. The first floor has an assembly hall with tiered podiums at the east and west ends, as well as offices and restrooms. The remaining four floors have offices, dressing and ordinance rooms.
Nevada State Office Building

The five-story building unifies the different divisions of Conservation and Natural Resources, which were located in seven different buildings. The building is also the first to be constructed under a lease-purchase agreement. As part of the State Capitol campus, the Nevada State Office Building is part of a proposed group of facilities connected by a network of pedestrian pathways with vehicular access provided from the campus perimeter. In response to campus context, the exterior of the Nevada State Office Building recalls the traditional character of neighboring structures.
New Harmony Public Library

Construction of the new library caps a five-year endeavor by the community to construct a public library as part of the Washington County Library System. In 2000, resident volunteers began a small satellite branch in the Harmony Heights District Fire Station kitchen. The New Harmony Friends of the Library gathered signatures in favor of a new library -- resulting in a bond that was approved in 2002. The 3,000 square foot building provides ample space for a wide selection of literature, a children's reading area, five public computers and community meeting rooms.
Newport Beach California LDS Temple

The Newport Beach temple is the sixth LDS temple in California. It sits on a six-acre site, adjacent to a stake center. The Salsbury pink exterior stone was quarried in North Carolina and fabricated in Italy and China. The southern California architecture and landscaping compliment the Newport Beach neighborhood. In addition to the Celestial Room, there are two endowment rooms, three sealing rooms and a baptistry.

Novell, Building F, is a three-story, 87,000 square foot office building designed to fit into Novell’s existing corporate campus. A bridge joins the new facility to the adjacent building. Completed in 1993, this facility was constructed around ongoing operations of the surrounding buildings. Construction activities were sequenced and planned to avoid inconvenience to Novell’s employees and customers.

Jacobsen constructed a new single-level brick and block elementary school for kindergarten through sixth Grade. Skylights installed at corridor intersections provide natural light, highlighting multi-colored patterned flooring. An interior courtyard and spacious multi-purpose room provide student and public gathering areas. The project scope also included recreational playing fields, landscaping and installation of new utilities and infrastructure.
Old Mill II Corporate Center

The Old Mill Corporate Center has 100,000 square feet of finished office space and an additional 30,000 square feet of designated computer space. The building has 100,000 square feet of finished office space and an additional 30,000 square feet of designated computer space. One Utah Center Office Tower and Parking Structure

Construction of a 24-story landmark office building. Jacobsen provided construction management services. The foundation was raft slab, four feet thick with reinforced steel. The exterior was covered with pin-mounted, polished, flame-cut granite stone. The stone was mounted on structural stud framing, welded onto mounting clips, then attached to concrete floors and vertical columns. The roof was covered with steel copper-colored sheets, with a baked-on finish.
OSHA Salt Lake Technical Center

The Salt Lake Technical Center is home to OSHA’s National Laboratory, National Health Response Team and OSHA’s electronic-compliance assistance tool development services. It includes instrument rooms, laboratories, chemical storage, offices, conference/education spaces, data center and support spaces. The center houses some of the most sophisticated and technically advanced equipment -- including robotics -- to provide extensive tests and analysis of samples collected from worksites throughout the country. The facility was designed and constructed to achieve LEED Certification, the highest rating standard for sustainable building projects.
Penco Warehouse Addition

Reno Nevada LDS Temple

The Reno Temple is the 81st operating temple of the LDS Church. It is situated on a spectacular ridge line overlooking the Reno metropolitan area. Its Classic modern, single-spire design is complimented by a gray granite exterior quarried near Sharon, Vermont. In addition to a Celestial Room, two endowment rooms (seating 40 people in each room) two sealing rooms and a baptistry serve more than 26,000 Latter-day Saints.
Rice-Eccles Olympic Legacy Plaza

The Rice-Eccles Olympic Legacy Plaza is a wonderful reminder of the 2002 Winter Games. Visitors to the park can now enjoy a closer look at the two of the most recognizable structures of the Games -- the Cauldron and Hoberman Arch. With an art gallery and interactive theater, the visitor center draws visitors indoors to relive 17 magical days of competition. High-quality, self-performed architectural concrete links the features of the park to its setting at the Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Ritz Carlton at Bachelor Gulch

New, 12-story hotel set at the base of the Bachelor Gulch ski hill. The 237 guest rooms have been designed with either large picture windows or balconies so that 95 percent of rooms have panoramic mountain or ski slope views. The interior design incorporates wood and leather, twig drawer pulls and colors from the natural landscape such as chestnut brown and chocolate with rust and green. The 21,000 square foot spa and fitness center features a rock-lined grotto, a lazy river hot tub and an outdoor heated pool. There are three dining venues, plus three additional cocktail lounges. There are more than 40,000 square feet of function space, including a 7,200 square foot ballroom.
Ritz-Carlton Club

The Ritz-Carlton Club is a condominium development and sister project to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The new development of high-end condominium units is located within the Bachelor Gulch on-mountain community in the Vail Valley. The Club consists of 54 two- and three-bedroom residences. It features an exterior created from rustic materials of stone, rough-hewn timber and iron.

Salt Lake Tabernacle Seismic Upgrade & Renovation

This historic renovation and seismic upgrade stabilizes the existing structure by adding supplemental framing and reinforcing bars to walls and roof. A general refurbishment of the interior included remodeling the existing spaces used by the Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square. Special precautions and building techniques were applied to preserve the historic nature of the building. Construction on the Tabernacle began in 1863 and ended in 1875. The ceiling is made of plaster and steamed, wooden planks lashed together with rawhide thongs and wooden pegs.
Salt Lake Winter Olympics Temporary Facilities

San Antonio Texas LDS Temple

Set on a prominent hilltop, the site offers a beautiful view of San Antonio -- and an even better view of the temple (as LDS Church President Hinckley pointed out). The structure is built on solid limestone, suspended on drilled piers and grade beams. Large pieces of stone milling equipment were used to excavate and break down the stone. Its single-spire design is complemented by a white granite exterior quarried in China. The stone cladding found on retaining walls, stairs and walks is a Texas red -- a tribute to the Lone Star State. In addition to the Celestial Room, two endowment rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry. Interior wall murals were painted by a local artist.
Scowcroft Building Renovation and Food Service Facility

The Scowcroft Building was built in 1906 and had served many uses -- dress manufacturer, canning and knitting factories, food and spice processing plant. It was listed on the National Register in 1978 and the Historical Register in 1986. The scope of the Scowcroft renovation included a seismic upgrade, stripping the interior and restoring the building. The changes provide a centralized space for a federal government agency complex. The new Junction City Café sits adjacent to the existing building and the three-acre site is being fully developed with landscaping, walks, drives, gazebos and plazas and parking areas.
Shooting Star Condominiums at Empire Pass

Shooting Star is located on the slopes near the center of The Village, adjacent to the planned new express chairlift terminal and Empire Club facility. This residential building is patterned after grand lodges like those found in Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks. Materials and colors have been carefully selected so the building will be in harmony with the natural surroundings. There is a welcoming lobby area with a stone fireplace, underground heated parking, ski storage areas and 22 individual condo units.
Snake River Lodge & Day Spa

The Snake River Lodge & Spa project consisted of several different construction phases, each with its own challenging and aggressive schedule. Jacobsen's task was to renovate all the guest rooms, add a new Women's Spa, complete the work of the Men's spa, remodel the lobby, corridors, restaurant and meeting rooms. All of this work took place while maintaining access for guests who, quite frankly, did not want to vacation in a construction zone. Once completed, Jacobsen was able to return a significant amount of savings to the Owner.
Sorenson Bioscience Building Addition

The addition to the existing Sorenson Molding Facility provides additional space for injection molding equipment. The tilt-up concrete structure involved placing panels on two different elevations. The building includes an overhead crane, process piping and industrial electrical service.
Southern Processing Center

Credit card processing center for mailing and receiving credit card invoices as well as embossing and distributing credit cards for the southeastern United States. The warehouse / administration building is slab on grade. The warehouse section is constructed with tilt-up concrete panels with structural steel interior columns. The administration area is constructed with structural steel with structural metal stud window wall system with a brick veneer. The project was delivered within budget and two weeks early.
Southern Utah University Sharwan Smith Student Center

The multi-level structure connects to the existing special events center and includes food courts, bookstores, student services and special event areas. The building required extensive underground ductwork, caissons and drainage systems. Construction was completed on time while 3,665 students were on campus. The structure sits on 190 caissons and connects to two other existing buildings to form one large structure, named the Sharwan Smith Center at dedication.
Southern Utah University South Hall Demolition & Replacement

Spring Creek Ranch Conference Facility and Wilderness Adventure

Surrounded by natural parks and countless wildlife, the Spring Creek Ranch Conference Facility and Wilderness Adventure Spa is an idyllic setting. Special amenities include a swimming pool, hot tub and tennis courts. Before the facility could be built, Jacobsen performed critical infrastructure work for the site that included realignment of the roadway, parking lots for guests and employees, utilities and a significant amount of earthwork. Close coordination with the Owner and design team ensured the site was ready for construction to begin. The Jacobsen build team paid particular attention to minimizing the disruption to ongoing guest services.
Springdale Public Library & Canyon Community Center

Located at the mouth of Zion National Park, the Springdale Library is arguably set in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The building committee envisioned the library and community center as a destination for conferences and seminars. The 4,100 square foot library can contain 23,000 items at full capacity. The 2,500 square foot conference room can be divided into three separate rooms, providing for a variety of uses. The building also features a gallery for displaying local artwork and exhibits.
St. George Public Library

As services provided to the public have changed and the collection has grown, St. George decided to build a new library. The look and feel of the building is consistent with other buildings on the block and the surrounding community. Community rooms of varying sizes handle many programs provided by the library. Story time, toddler and pre-school education, young adult programs, adult literacy, guest artists and other events are some of the activities the library can host.
Tamarack Members Clubhouse and Lodge

Temple Square Utility Tunnel Renovation & Expansion

Jacobsen completed the renovation and expansion of underground steam tunnels that link the steam plant just west of the Family History Library to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City. Some of the tunnels date back to the construction of the Hotel Utah (circa 1910-1914).
Teton Club

New, six-story, 36-unit condominium building at the base of the Jackson Hole ski area. The condominium resort includes two and three-bedroom units, a 62-space parking garage, a 3,000 square foot fitness facility and 2,500 square feet of unfinished restaurant space. Designed to reflect the architecture and ambience of the “grand old lodges” of America’s first national parks, each of the condominium units features custom interior design with luxurious furnishings, river rock fireplaces, and private balconies. In addition, there is a “spa garden” with four individual hot tubs. Each of the hot tubs is surrounded by boulders to simulate natural hot springs. A natural creek runs through the spa garden.
The E Center

University Mall Remodel

Remodel of the existing J.C. Penney building at the University Mall into 84,000 sq. ft. of shell retail space, including 15,000 sq. ft. of finished mall corridor. Additional work included a seismic upgrade and a remodel to the exterior skin of the building. The timetables were set to meet needs of mall patrons. When possible, concrete pours and heavy demolition were done at night.
University of Utah Biomedical Polymers Research Facility

State-of-the-art biomedical research building, combining the medical and electronic aspects of medical research. The building included a number of laboratories, testing areas, training labs, offices, and animal holding areas. The interior was fitted and styled with bio-safety hood units, emergency wash areas, medical gas commissioning, labs with movement sensitive equipment, electronic microscopes, technical testing areas, administrative offices, classrooms, and one inch thick acoustic wall panels -- mounted on the walls of classrooms and lecture area with Velcro taping.
University of Utah Emma Eccles Jones Medical Research Building

The six-level building houses School of Medicine research programs, including pathology and biochemistry. It includes labs and conference areas with the latest technology and equipment. Because the building is used strictly for research, vibration within the building is an important consideration. The vibration requirement is limited to 1,000 micro inches per second. To meet this requirement most cost effectively, a poured-in-place reinforced concrete system was used.
University of Utah Marriott Library Expansion

The Marriott Library Expansion more than doubled the size of the library without changing its exterior appearance. This effect was achieved by constructing the two new floors underground. Several large skylights and five light courts throughout the new structure provide natural lighting for public areas. Project completed on time with over 26,000 students on campus. Woodwork and architectural concrete throughout building. Tight access required tightly sequenced work. The existing library remained in operation throughout construction.
University of Utah Warnock Engineering Building

University Park Hotel & Conference Center

Seven-story prestressed concrete structure, with an east and west wing connected by a large window wall atrium. Building included two large ballroom/conference rooms, public restaurant, private club, swimming pool, spa exercise room, gift shop, and theater style conference/presentation room. Brick exterior, single-ply membrane roofing, aluminum/glass storefronts and window walls. Concrete Abridges connect the east and west wings at levels two through seven. Two glass-fronted elevators overlook the Atrium and reception area.
USANA Amphitheater

The project is an outdoor amphitheater for concerts. The facility holds approximately 7,000 guests in the fixed seating section and 12,000 thousand guest in the lawn. There are also many support buildings (i.e. Food Service, Bathrooms, Guest Services, etc.) that surround the venue. Jacobsen was the subcontractor for all concrete which consisted of 850 cubic yards of concrete for the foundation and structure for the stage and 1,600 cubic yards for the slab-on-grade, ramps, aisles and fixed seating.
UTA Lovendahl Center Addition

To provide capacity for UTA's expanding fleet, the existing Lovendahl Center needed to be expanded in capacity. Jacobsen managed the following elements of work: construction of four imbedded tracks, new parts room and installation of two bridge cranes. Jacobsen was also responsible for procuring and installing additional turntables, a vehicle hoist and lift table.
UTA Lovendahl Center Vehicle Maintenance Facility

Light Rail vehicle maintenance and cleaning facility. Includes administration offices, parts rooms, vehicle wash system, vehicle-painting room, vehicle inspection pits and specialized equipment such as a wheel-truing machine, bridge crane, wheel press, turntables, and vehicle hoist. Work scopes required thoughtful and careful sequencing to accommodate difficult access, working in multiple underground pits, long lead items and coordination with multiple owner contractors.

Utah Olympic Park

Utah State Capitol East/West Expansion Buildings

Utah State University Cogeneration & Central Chiller Addition

The chilled water and cogeneration utility plant expansion serves as an addition to the new campus central heating plant and utility tunnel system. On-site electricity production by 4.3 Mw cogeneration system and 850-ton central chiller were added to achieve long-term reduction in energy costs and improved cooling reliability.
Utah State University Merrill-Cazier Library

The new library not only replaces the existing Merrill Library, but also integrates the existing 116,000 square foot Cazier Science and Technology Library and extends to the north and east. All library functions will now be housed under one roof. The building includes an expansive information commons, cyber cafe and an automated storage and retrieval system that can be used to store more than 1.4 million books and journals.
Utah State University Performance Hall

Jacobsen worked hand in hand with multiple entities to create a world-class facility that serves both students and the Cache County community. As the first new construction project for the new Caine School of the Arts, the Performance Hall serves as a beacon for this area. The state-of-the-art facility boasts the newest acoustical technology in the state. The clean concrete exterior and wood-paneled concert hall look deceptively simple, but every inch of the 20,000 square foot hall was designed and constructed to amplify music performances.

The new sheriff's office building consists of a two-story, wood and steel framed office building of approximately 30,000 square feet, including site development and landscaping. The upper floor will contain office space for the Utah Highway Patrol, Probation and Parole Departments. The main level will contain offices for the Sheriff’s Department.
Wilson Elementary School

The Wilson Elementary School is a metal framed, single-story school located at the base of the Teton mountains. The exterior, reminiscent of the little old red schoolhouse, features red siding, white windows and a bell tower. A geothermal heating system -- a cost-efficient, environmentally friendly energy alternative -- provides heating and cooling.
Zions Bank Tower Re-skin

Using a combination of masonry, precast, curtain wall and glazing to replace the existing exterior skin, Jacobsen completed the construction of this 21-story office building while a majority of the building was still occupied. Two main streets on the north and west sides of the building also remained open.
