LAS VEGAS — Jacobsen Construction and The PENTA Building Group are forming a joint venture to build the Intermountain Health Nevada Children’s Hospital.
The project will break ground in early 2026. The facility will be Nevada’s first ever stand-alone comprehensive children’s hospital when it opens in 2030.
“For Jacobsen Construction, partnering with PENTA in the building and delivery of this project is the culmination of two decades of continuous close work with Intermountain Health to deliver inspiring projects that serve the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Gary Ellis, president and CEO of Jacobsen.
“We have treasured the many years of working on impactful projects at Primary Children’s and many other Intermountain facilities. To be entrusted by them with this truly once-in-a-generation project, and to be able to draw on that longstanding relationship to solve problems together for this facility is an amazing privilege.”
The 200-bed facility will include comprehensive oncology services, cardiovascular treatment and several other types of specialty hospital care that are currently only available out-of-state for Nevada’s pediatric patients.
“The Nevada Children’s Hospital is poised to be state-of-art, welcoming families close to home with the compassionate service for which Intermountain is known,” said Lawrence Barnard, the Intermountain Health leader who was named as the hospital’s president earlier this year.
Jacobsen’s leadership team on the project will be spearheaded by Vice President Blake Court, a project executive who has directed high-stakes construction work for Intermountain Health and its Primary Children’s Hospital facilities for more than 19 consecutive years. In a press release announcing the news, Intermountain Health noted that the joint venture project team was selected because of Jacobsen’s “innovative and expansive knowledge in health care construction” and PENTA’s “familiarity in leading large-scale projects in Nevada.” Jacobsen completed the new Primary Children’s Hospital Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Campus in Lehi, Utah, in early 2024.
The Nevada Children’s Hospital will be built at the UNLV Harry Reid Research and Technology Park in Las Vegas.
“(This hospital) is going to be an incredible addition to the Las Vegas community, and The PENTA Building Group is excited to partner with Jacobsen Construction to help make it a reality,” said John Cannito, president and CEO of PENTA.
Two architecture firms, Shepley Bulfinch and Gensler, were recently selected by Intermountain Health to lead the design of the Nevada Children’s Hospital.
