SALT LAKE CITY — Jacobsen Construction earned the distinction as a Top-100 Green Contractor for the 15th consecutive year, according to a new ranking published by Engineering News-Record (ENR).

ENR’s 2023 ranking puts Jacobsen at 61st, a 15-spot jump from the year prior. The company has made the list every year since 2009, just two years after ENR began publishing its Green Contractor rankings.

Certified green construction increased across all commercial market sectors in the most recent year containing full data (2022), with green projects worth $3.5 billion completed nationwide during that time, ENR said in its special report.

“If the AEC industry is to keep pace with project goals, pursue third-party certifications and reduce building environmental impacts, the adoption of sustainable practices must be a jog and not a sprint,” the magazine wrote.

Jacobsen currently employs 16 LEED Accredited Professionals — project leaders who are specially trained to build according to stringent environmental standards that account for energy efficiency, water efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable landscaping, carbon footprint and more.

Jacobsen project teams have also built multiple facilities to align with Green Globes Building Certification, another construction sustainability program with rigorous requirements. And recently, the company completed the remodel of the Architectural Nexus Office in Salt Lake City, which is on track to become one of just a few dozen buildings anywhere to become Living Building certified by the International Living Future Institute by meeting the world’s strictest energy regeneration, self-sufficiency and integration-with-nature criteria.
