The Provo City Center Temple was named Overall Project of the Year at ENR’s Best Projects event, held in downtown Salt Lake City this week. The 85,000-square-foot structure also took top honors in the Renovation/Restoration category.
“Thank you to ENR for this award… it’s an honor to be recognized among you all,” said Andy Kirby, project manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “This was my first major project for the LDS Church, and it was a marvelous experience to be a part of it. It was a significant challenge for our team; there were a lot of ‘head-scratchers’ on this project, but Jacobsen performed beautifully as we used the fabric of the Provo Tabernacle and turned it into a modern-day temple. To achieve the feeling of a historic building with modern construction was truly an honor to witness.”
“All of us feel the same way about the Provo City Center Temple — it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime project,” added JCC Project Executive Kirk Dickamore. “The Provo Tabernacle was an icon for Provo city and the Church. We not only restored some of Provo’s historic charm, but we also preserved an important piece of history. We are very grateful to have had the privilege of collaborating on this project with the Church and FFKR Architects.”
Jacobsen took top honors in three additional categories in this year’s Best Projects competition: Ogden 2nd District Juvenile Courthouse (Government/Public); USU Eastern’s Central Instructional Building (Higher Education); and the Spence Eccles Olympic Freestyle Pool at Utah Olympic Park (Sports/Entertainment). Neuroworx medical office building was also given an award of merit in the Small Projects category.
