SALT LAKE CITY — In what was a remarkably unpredictable year for the industry, Jacobsen Construction Company nonetheless maintained its steady track record of notable project awards and recognition in 2020.
Jacobsen was recognized with 11 awards in 2020 for its work on health care, historical renovation, industrial plant, military training, multi-unit housing, private office space and recreational facility projects. This recognition came from Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mountain States, Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Utah, Utah Construction & Design and the American Concrete Institute Intermountain Chapter. In addition to those project-specific awards, Jacobsen also won Best of State recognition in Utah naming the company as the Beehive State’s top general contractor. This was an unprecedented sixth Best of State award for Jacobsen in the past seven years.

The following Jacobsen projects were named award winners in 2020:
Athlete & Workforce Housing at Utah Olympic Park | 1 award
Residential/Hospitality Project Merit Award, ENR Mountain States
This beautiful new housing in Park City greatly enhances existing facilities at Utah Olympic Park by making it possible for 200 athletes and staff to live onsite. These living accommodations are an essential leg up for athletes during training, as well as an absolutely invaluable asset should Utah be selected as the location for the 2030 Winter Olympics.
Camp Williams Readiness Center | 1 award
Government/Public Project of the Year, ENR Mountain States
This facility is a magnificent training complex for the men and women serving in the Utah National Guard Special Forces. Its 140,600 square-foot campus includes an assembly hall, classrooms, kitchen, offices, storage areas, lockers, lavatories and special function spaces.
Huntsman Cancer Institute Proton Therapy Center | 1 award
Health Care Project of the Year, AGC of Utah
The Proton Therapy Center is bringing a much-needed advanced form of cancer treatment closer to home for Utah families. It required enormous collaboration across several trades to ensure this life-saving technology was delivered and installed with exact precision.
Kearns Building Remodel | 3 awards
Renovation/Restoration Project Merit Award, ENR Mountain States
Renovation/Restoration Project of the Year, AGC of Utah
Most Outstanding Renovation/Restoration Project, Utah Construction & Design
This was a unique project with a dual focus on restoring and emphasizing the historical elements of the 10-story Kearns Building, which was built in downtown Salt Lake City in 1911, while also upgrading its modern workplace amenities.
Morgan Asphalt Batch Plant and New Office Building | 1 award
Specialty Construction Project of the Year (Building/Industrial Division), AGC of Utah
Jacobsen collaborated with frequent trade partner Morgan Asphalt to construct a beautiful new Magna, Utah headquarters with upgraded amenities for its workforce. Jacobsen also worked as a subcontractor to Morgan Asphalt on that company’s new state-of-the-art batch plant.
University of Utah Ambulatory Care Complex | 3 awards
Health Care Project of the Year, ENR Mountain States
Excellence in Safety Merit Award, ENR Mountain States
Most Outstanding Health Care Project (Large), Utah Construction & Design
